FAQ

Here are questions that past cilents have asked me

What type of service does the Admissions Coach exactly provide?

I cater to both short term and long term success. For the short term, I offer "Rate My Essay" where students can submit their essays at any stage to be reviewed. Should they require extra help, I offer One-on-One online counselling sessions to resolve any problems they have in the university application process.

Should students require a counselor to guide them every step of the way, I offer comprehensive counselling packages which covers everything from start to finish.

What makes the Admissions Coach different from other consultants?

Many think that the best college counselors are those that have graduated or worked in the admissions office of prestigious unviersities. Yet, over the years, I have worked together with many such counselors and discovered that having such a background is not the upmost criteria. Though they know why and how students are admitted, they may offer advice which the student is unable to execute, or they may not understand why certain students are incapable of completing certain tasks. Rather, the skill to understand things from the perspective of any student, and offer effective guidelines is the most important trait of a good college counselor. That's why I don't need students to have a certain SAT score, number of APs, GPA, extracurricular talent in order to be a student of mine as I am capable of coaching all kinds of students.

What universities do your students get into?

I have placed a student into any Top 100 U.S. university you can think of whether it's Stanford, MIT, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, UPenn, UC Berkeley, Johns Hopkins and many others.

My scope is not just limited to U.S., as I have placed students worldwide including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, UCL, LSE in the U.K., University of Melbourne, University of Sydney, UNSW in Australia and University of Hong Kong, CUHK, HKUST in Hong Kong, which are all ranked inside the Top 50 World Universities.

What type of students have you worked with?

I've worked with the nostalgic architect, the upcoming entrepreneur, the AIDS prevention advocate, the girl who doesn't like barbie dolls, the yin and yang philosopher, the all-star basketballer, the science whizzkid(s) and the genius who skipped grades. There isn't a student I haven't met before. Of course, I like to be surprised.

Where do you meet students?

Everything happens online via Zoom! I've helped students who were studying in high school in U.K, U.S, Canada, Malaysia, and China to apply for overseas universities. You can obtain an university degree in your own room, have a relationship online or make a living from the comfort of your home. In this day and age, location is no longer a barrier.

How often do you meet with students?

Coaching has been proven to be most effective by meeting on a regular basis as a strong connection, routine and accountability is established between the coach and the student. In our 9-11th Grade coaching programs, we talk at least once every two weeks through Zoom. For the 12th Graders, we will meet more often, at times at least once a week. We try to meet often in summer to get more essays done or in urgent situations such as before the deadlines, we will meet more. Other times, we keep in touch via Whatsapp.

You mentioned that you offer university admissions counselling. But I already have a higher education counsellor at school. Isn't that enough?

Do you know on average how many students a higher education counsellor takes care of? At least 50. And that's for the private schools. Do you know how many I take care of? Not more than 15. College counsellors are overwhelmed. They cannot provide the strategic, one-on-one personalized service that I offer. On top of that, I find many college counsellors at school have no formal training in higher education consulting and are simply given the responsibilities as an added duty. It is risky to depend your future solely on your school's college counselor.

It sounds pretty awesome. Do you guarantee that I get accepted to an university?

The only guarantees in life are death and taxes. To create the perception for students that university acceptance is guaranteed implies that they do not need to work hard to get in which goes against our philosophy of holding students accountable for their future. One more thing, to give parents a peace of mind, our success speaks for itself.

Can you at least write my essays for me?

I theoretically could write an outstanding essay for you but no, I won't do that. The essay writing process can be viewed as a mechanism to reflect on your past, present and future rather than simply writing for the sake of it. If you believe in yourself and entrust me, you will write essays of exceptional quality.

You fees are cheaper than other counselors. Why is that?

Some things can be too good to be true! I'm very transparent about my pricing. My services are modern and reasonably priced. There are no hidden charges. What is listed is what you get. As a one-man show, I have comparatively less expenses than other companies, hence the lower fees. Lower fees does not mean lower quality. My quality remains high, as evidenced by my testimonials, schools and companies seeking my expertise for the training of new counselors and continual be in the know of the changing landscape in admissions.
